Live Dendrobaena Worms for Axolotls

Dendrobaena worms are one of the best natural foods for axolotls, providing a nutritious, protein-rich diet that encourages natural feeding behaviour. Their lively movement stimulates hunting instincts, making them an excellent staple food for healthy axolotls.

Our live Dendrobaena worms are fed daily on our own Downswood Worm Food before being packed fresh on the day of dispatch in moisture-retaining coconut coir. We believe that well-fed worms make better live food, helping to ensure your axolotl receives healthy, active worms that are ready to feed as soon as they arrive.

Why Choose Live Food?

Many axolotl owners feed pellets as their main diet, and quality pellets can be a convenient option. However, live Dendrobaena worms offer something that prepared foods simply can't – the opportunity for your axolotl to hunt, stalk and capture its food naturally.

Watching an axolotl actively search for and catch live worms is not only rewarding for owners, but also provides valuable environmental enrichment by encouraging natural behaviours. For many keepers, feeding live worms becomes one of the most enjoyable parts of owning an axolotl.

Whether offered as a regular part of the diet or as an occasional treat alongside pellets, live Dendrobaena worms provide a natural feeding experience that closely reflects how axolotls would feed in the wild.

How Long Will a Pack Last?

The exact lifespan of a pack will vary depending on the size of your worms, your axolotl's age, appetite and how the worms are stored. The estimates below are based on feeding a single juvenile axolotl, using the lower end of our estimated worm count and the highest typical feeding rate.

Pack Size Estimated Duration (Single Axolotl)
100g Around 3–4 weeks
250g Around 7–10 weeks
500g Around 14–20 weeks

Adult axolotls generally require feeding less frequently than juveniles, so packs may last longer. If you're feeding multiple axolotls, simply adjust your expected usage accordingly.

Storage & Care

Transfer your Dendrobaena worms into a suitable ventilated container as soon as possible after they arrive, along with the coconut coir they are packed in. Store them in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

The coconut coir should remain slightly damp but not wet. If the coconut coir begins to dry out, lightly mist it with clean water as required.

Dispatch & Delivery

Every order is packed fresh on the day of dispatch to help ensure your worms arrive in the best possible condition.

All live worm orders are sent using Royal Mail Tracked 24 or an equivalent tracked next working day service, helping to get your worms to you as quickly as possible.

To minimise the risk of parcels being delayed over the weekend, we normally dispatch live worm orders on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We may also dispatch on Thursday if temperatures are suitable and the destination can be reached within the expected delivery time frame.

As live animals, our worms should be unpacked as soon as possible after delivery and transferred into a suitable ventilated container.
