Live Dendrobaena Worms

Dendrobaena worms are one of the most versatile fishing baits available and a firm favourite with coarse anglers across the UK. Their natural movement, durability on the hook and irresistible appeal to a wide range of species make them a go-to bait in any tackle box.

For our fishing bait packs, we carefully select the largest, healthiest Dendrobaena worms from our stock to provide anglers with lively, well-sized bait that's ready to fish. Every order is packed fresh on the day of dispatch in moisture-retaining coconut coir to help keep the worms healthy during transit. Whether you're targeting carp, perch, roach, rudd, bream, chub, barbel or tench, our live Dendrobaena worms offer a natural bait that's ready to use as soon as it arrives.

Why Choose Dendrobaena Worms?

Dendrobaena worms (Dendrobaena veneta), sometimes known simply as Dendros, are one of the UK's most popular natural fishing baits. Their lively movement attracts fish in a wide range of conditions, while their firm skin helps them stay securely on the hook for longer than many softer worm species.

Suitable for both stillwater and river fishing, Dendrobaena worms can be fished whole, in sections or in bunches depending on your target species. Their versatility makes them an excellent choice whether you're targeting specimen carp or smaller coarse fish.

How Many Worms Will I Receive?

As Dendrobaena worms are a natural product, the exact number in each pack will vary depending on the size of the worms. For our fishing bait packs, we carefully select the larger worms from our stock, so you’ll generally receive fewer worms than you would with smaller grades.

As a guide:

  • 100g – Approximately 80–120 worms, ideal for a day’s coarse fishing or several shorter sessions.
  • 250g – Approximately 200–300 worms, a great choice for longer sessions, competitions or weekend fishing trips.
  • 500g – Approximately 400–600 worms, perfect for extended sessions, group fishing trips or anglers who want plenty of bait for both the hook and loose feeding.

Looking for a mix of sizes? Our fishing bait packs are graded to include the larger worms from our stock. If you’d prefer a more natural mix of sizes, take a look at our Composting Worms. Alternatively, if you have a specific size preference, please visit our Contact Us page after placing your order and we’ll always do our best to tailor your pack where possible, subject to availability.

Storage & Care

Transfer your Dendrobaena worms into a suitable bait box or bait tub as soon as possible after they arrive, along with the coconut coir they are packed in. They are ready to fish straight away, although worms can sometimes appear a little subdued after transport, particularly during very hot or cold weather. Once settled into a bait tub, they’ll usually recover quickly and become more active again.

Keep your bait box in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. The coconut coir should remain slightly damp but not wet. If it starts to dry out, a light misting of clean water will restore the moisture.

If you have worms left over after your fishing trip, don’t throw them away. With the right care, they can be stored for future sessions. For more detailed advice, see our guide, How to Store Dendrobaena Worms (here).

Dispatch & Delivery

Every order is packed fresh on the day of dispatch to help ensure your worms arrive in the best possible condition.

All live worm orders are sent using Royal Mail Tracked 24 or an equivalent tracked next working day service, helping to get your worms to you as quickly as possible.

To minimise the risk of parcels being delayed over the weekend, we normally dispatch live worm orders on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We may also dispatch on Thursday if temperatures are suitable and the destination can be reached within the expected delivery timeframe.

As live animals, our worms should be unpacked as soon as possible after delivery and transferred into a suitable bait box or bait tub.

Best Fish Species to Catch with Dendrobaena Worms

Carp

Dendrobaena worms are a proven bait for carp throughout the year. Fish them individually, in bunches or tipped with sweetcorn to create a highly attractive natural presentation. Their lively movement and natural scent help tempt cautious carp, particularly in pressured waters.

Perch

Perch are natural predators and are highly attracted to the movement of live Dendrobaena worms. A whole worm or a lively tail section can be deadly when fished close to features, margins or submerged structures.

Roach

Roach readily take Dendrobaena worms, especially during the colder months when natural food sources become scarce. Small sections of worm are ideal for targeting larger specimens.

Rudd

Rudd will happily take pieces of Dendrobaena worms fished on light tackle. Their movement in the water can often trigger confident takes from cruising fish.

Bream

Bream respond well to bunches of Dendrobaena worms, particularly when feeder fishing or on natural venues where worms form part of their normal diet.

Chub

Chub are opportunistic feeders and rarely ignore a lively Dendrobaena worm. They are especially effective in rivers where natural food is regularly washed downstream.

Barbel

Barbel are well known for taking worms, particularly after rain when rivers carry extra colour. A bunch of lively Dendrobaena worms can be an excellent bait for tempting specimen fish.

Tench

Tench naturally feed on worms in lakebeds and margins. Dendrobaena worms make an excellent choice during spring and summer when tench are actively searching for natural food.

Estuary Fishing

Dendrobaena worms aren't just for freshwater fishing. They are also an effective bait for estuary species such as flounder and eels, where their lively movement and tough skin make them ideal for fishing in tidal conditions. They can be a real session saver when other baits are being ignored, often tempting fish when little else is working.
