Live Dendrobaena Worms for Small Frogs & Toads

Our live Dendrobaena worms are a natural, nutritious live food that can form a useful part of a varied diet for smaller frogs and toads, including fire-bellied toads and White’s tree frogs. They provide a natural prey item that can encourage natural feeding and hunting behaviour. These are the same Dendrobaena worms we supply for other uses; we’ve simply categorised them by intended use so we can select the most appropriate size from our available stock when packing your order. This also allows us to point you towards the most relevant feeding information and guides for your frog or toad.

We feed our worms daily on our own Downswood Worm Food before being packed fresh on the day of dispatch in moisture-retaining coconut coir. We believe that well-fed worms make better live food, helping to ensure your amphibian receives healthy, active worms ready to feed when they arrive.

Why Feed Live Dendrobaena Worms?

Live prey provides more than nutrition alone. Offering worms gives frogs and toads the opportunity to search for, strike at and consume natural prey, encouraging behaviours that prepared foods cannot replicate in quite the same way.

Dendrobaena worms can be offered as part of a varied diet alongside other suitable feeder insects and prey. The amount and frequency you feed will depend on the species, age and size of your frog or toad.

Always choose appropriately sized worms. As a general guide, prey should be no wider than the width of the animal’s head.

Feeding Your Frog or Toad

There is no single feeding schedule that suits every frog or toad. Younger animals generally require more frequent feeding than adults, while larger species have different requirements again.

For smaller frogs and toads, offer appropriately sized worms as part of a varied diet and adjust the quantity according to your animal’s appetite, size and body condition.

Remove any uneaten worms after feeding to help keep the enclosure clean.

Storage & Care

Transfer your Dendrobaena worms into a suitable ventilated container as soon as possible after they arrive, along with the coconut coir they are packed in.

Store them in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. The coconut coir should remain slightly damp but not wet. If the bedding begins to dry out, lightly mist it with clean water as required.

Remove any dead worms promptly and check your worms regularly to ensure they remain healthy and active.

Dispatch & Delivery

Every order is packed fresh on the day of dispatch to help ensure your worms arrive in the best possible condition.

All live worm orders are sent using Royal Mail Tracked 24 or an equivalent tracked next-working-day service, helping to get your worms to you as quickly as possible.

To minimise the risk of parcels being delayed over the weekend, we normally dispatch live worm orders on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We may also dispatch on Thursday where temperatures are suitable and the destination can be reached within the expected delivery time.

As live animals, your worms should be unpacked as soon as possible after delivery and transferred into a suitable ventilated container.
